American Wine Society Annual Conference Kicks Off Nov. 8 in Portland

The American Wine Society kicks off its 45th annual conference next week with about 500 wine enthusiasts converging on Portland for the three-day show, Nov. 8-10.
The Oregon Wine Board is a lead sponsors of the conference, along with the Willamette Valley Wineries Association. The conference, which attracts wine devotees from around the U.S., will be held at the Red Lion Hotel on the River at Jantzen Beach. A number of Oregon wineries are participating in various events on the agenda as well as in the Showcase of Wines on Nov. 9.
The first activity for the conference will take place Nov. 8 at Willamette Valley Vineyards near Salem for the “Willamette Valley Experience.” Attendees will be bused from Portland to the winery for an evening of activities, all focused on Oregon and Oregon wine.
Oregon wine industry producers are extensively represented in the conference agenda on topics ranging from Biodynamics to the Southern Oregon AVA.
This is the first time the conference has been held in the Northwest. The conference features dozens of sessions aimed at satiating wine lovers’ thirst for knowledge of wines from around the world with a particular emphasis on winemaking in from Northwest.
The American Wine Society was organized in 1967 as a non-profit, educational, consumer-oriented organization for those interested in learning more about all aspects of wine. The American Wine Society is the largest consumer based wine education organization in North America. Membership is open to anyone interested in wine and over 21 years of age. Chapters are located throughout the U.S., including a chapter in Portland.
