      Perhaps the best barometer of the Willamette Valley wine industry is the growing number of second-generation winemakers successfully taking the lead in the family business.

      At Chehalem Wines, the only question is how the erudite Harry Peterson-Nedry, 66, wants to describe the transition of his daughter, Wynne, into his role as head winemaker.

      “I’ve done succession plans for people in other industries, and we haven’t formally created one,” he said. “Mine was more of an assumption if it was Wynne’s desire and if she saw the benefits.”
